The setting for the pic is that they don't know each other well yet, but are curious and want to get closer. <3
In the official fanbook, Hino-sensei gave background settings, and Rima is a huge fan of Shiki's mom (who used to be an actress).
Rima and Shiki met as both became models.
(Shiki was scouted to become a model while he was hanging around while his mom worked.)
We don't know exactly at what age they started being models, or what age they were when they met though, it wasn't mentioned. ^^

Senri Shiki
(支葵 千里, Shiki Senri) is One of the youngest Night Class members. He works as a model with Rima Touya. When the Night Class is given orders to hunt down a level E vampire, Shiki is usually the one we see out hunting the level E vampires. He has a whip-like weapon which develops from his blood. His father is Rido Kuran, making him Kaname and Yuki's cousin, and his mother's uncle is part of the council. His mother was also a former actress, making the Shiki family well known. Shiki's body is currently possessed by his father's soul, who is supposed to be dead. Though possessed by Rido, Rido claims that having Shiki regain conscious is easier than he had let on. During his fight with Rima, Shiki awakened within himself and is seen trying to regain control.
After Rido's revival, he regained consciousness and after recalling the events that had taken place, apologizes to an unconscious Rima for letting Rido use his body and embraces her. He then protects Rima from a servant of Rido's. He carried Rima who is now conscious away from the building before it collapsed, seeing his father one last time before Rido's death
Rima Touya Rima Touya (遠矢 莉磨, Tōuya Rima) is One of the youngest Night Class students. She works as a model alongside Senri Shiki. Her exact relationship with Shiki is unknown, though they are almost always seen together. She cares deeply for Shiki and possesses a personality similar to his. Rima possesses either lightning or electricity powers.
After suspecting Shiki has changed upon his return to school, she confronts Rido and tells him to leave Shiki's body since she can tell that he is not Shiki. She is wounded by Rido, but is saved by Takuma. She tries to convince Shiki to snap out of his state and calls him an idiot for letting Rido control him. Badly wounded, she is sent back to the Moon Dormitory by Takuma. Protected by Shiki, she later awakens and they are forced to leave because of the building's collapse.

Shiki and Rima

Shiki and Rima are both models,and work together on many occasions and also take on assignments from the vampire council to hunt down level E vampires. They both share the same personality and are almost always seen together,in the anime we see Rima feeding Shiki a lot. Its not very clear how deep their relationship is as we never really seen them drink blood from one another as some of the other vampires, but they do hold hands. We have seen Rima being worried for Shiki and wondering if he's okay. After Shiki is possessed by his father Rido, Rima battles him demanding he leaves Shiki's body. Her words alone are almost enough to bring Shiki back. In chapter 41, Shiki was seen embracing Rima, apologizing for his mistake. This shows that he does care for her. In chapter 43, he carried Rima who is now conscious away from the building before it collapsed. Currently, Shiki and Rima are looking for Ichijou together, as he has disappeared.

About Shiki Senri and Tooya Rima
Shiki Senri and Tooya Rima (or Shiki and Rima as they are commonly refered to as in the series) are two lesser characters in the manga Vampire Knight. Both are members of the Night Class of students at the academy and are vampires of the noble class. During their spare time they model together and also take on assignments from the vampire council to hunt down level E (insane former humans) vampires. Throughout the series they are often seen together and seem to express a deeper bond then has ever been explicitly stated in the manga. Proof of the bond between the two exists in recent chapters. After Shiki's body is stolen, Rima notices instantly. In addition, she confronts him about it, demanding to have him back. Her words alone are almost enough to break him of the curse. Hopefully we will see more of these two soon!
In a recent edition of LaLa magazine, the results of a reader poll about favorite Vampire Knight couples was released. Shiki and Rima placed second, just behind Zero and Yuuki and even beating out the Kaname and Yuuki pairing!
